While I like the idea of detox, I think what most people should do is being *concious* about *what* they do with the smartphone and not how much they use it, f.e. using it productively rather than mindlessly After all, you buy a phone to use it, not to stay away from it as much as possible

It would help if apps weren't intentionally designed to keep you on them as long as possible. Never ending scrolls. Random order of posts, and of course the dopamine hit when you get a like or comment. It's much the same mechanisms used to keep people at slot machines. Our biology is being hacked, and we're all paying for it.

Vor 13 Tage
Vance Winstead
Vance Winstead

Yeah, I have an android phone and an iPad, and Id have to say the limits are in iOS are pretty useless. They just send you to to another screen that prompts you on how to increase your time limit, whereas android kicks you out and doesn’t let you reopen the app. Android has allowed me to significantly decrease my app usage, while for iOS...not so much.

Vor 13 Tage
URBANKAMI
URBANKAMI

There is a problem with it though. I've run into it. I had to search for something on the web using Firefox on my smartphone. I had to do it on my smartphone because I just got off work and it was important information. But then the notification came that I reached my limit so I had turn it off manually. It was a bit annoying. I'd think of the iOS version more of a nudge to do less rather than a strict limit. Both have pros and cons.

Vor 13 Tage
Johnnybarra
Johnnybarra

I think that's what he was referring to. The iPhone version was the one that isn't as helpful, as it allows you to turn it off almost instantly. While the Android version requires a few more steps, therefore preventing most people from just turning it back off.
